Position Title: Volunteer Driver (Van/Mini-Bus with Towbar and Trailer)
Reports To: Niamh Irvine
Location: The St Johnstone Community Trust
Commitment: Flexible, evenings and weekends when booked
Role Summary
The Volunteer Driver will assist our organisation by safely operating a van or mini-bus equipped with a towbar and trailer to transport the mobile Street Sports court. This role is vital to ensuring our operations run smoothly and our services reach those who need them, as identified by the Perth & Kinross Safer Communities Team or Police Scotland.
Key Responsibilities
- Safe Transportation: Drive a provided van or mini-bus with a towbar and trailer, adhering to traffic laws and organisational safety guidelines.
- Loading and Unloading: Assist with loading and unloading the trailer, ensuring the load is secure and evenly distributed.
- Vehicle Maintenance: Perform basic vehicle and trailer checks before use (e.g., fuel, tire pressure, lights, etc.) and report any maintenance issues promptly.
- Compliance: Ensure all required licenses, permits, and certifications are up to date and carried while driving.
- Collaboration: Work with team members, staff, or other volunteers to support activities.
- Customer Interaction: Represent the organisation positively when interacting with young people, community members, or partners during transportation tasks.
Requirements
- Driving License: A valid license appropriate for operating a van/bus and towing a trailer (Category D1E or equivalent).
- Driving Experience: Proven experience driving vehicles with trailers, including reversing and parking with a trailer attached.
- Physical Fitness: Ability to assist with loading/unloading and handle equipment as needed.
- Availability: Willingness to volunteer on scheduled days/times as agreed.
- Background Check: Pass any required background or reference checks.
Preferred Skills and Attributes
- Familiarity with local routes and roadways.
- Knowledge of towing and securing loads properly.
- Excellent time management and reliability.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to upholding the organization's mission and values.
Training and Support
- Initial orientation on the organisation’s operations, safety protocols, and vehicle handling.
- Ongoing support from staff and access to resources to ensure a positive volunteering experience.
