Summary

We’re looking for volunteers to serve and help support the language students in gaining hospitality skills by serving drinks and light meals.

Detailed description

Minimum of 4 hours per week/fortnight/month with full induction and training provided

What’s involved?

·      Meeting and greeting customers and showing them to their table

·      Taking orders and serving at tables

·      Preparing and serving hot and cold drinks, using coffee machine

·      Taking payments using the till and epos system

·      Helping in the kitchen with food preparation.

·      Clearing empty plates & tables ready for new customers

·      Ensuring the café area remains clean & tidy during service

·      Assist in kitchen and cleaning at the end of the day.

What skills and experience do I need?

Enjoy meeting & talking to new people

Be polite, friendly & positive

Reliable & able to work as part of a team

Patience with students who are learning English

Some experience of serving in a similar environment

Happy with an active role where you will be on your feet during busy periods

Hold a Level II Food & Hygiene Certificate – or willing to complete training

About Acorn café

Providing training opportunities for people who are speakers of other languages to improve their English and gain hospitality experience at the same time.
The language students who volunteer at the cafe are also attending classes at ESOL Perth.
Acorn is a C.I.C.- community interest company which means all proceeds are directed to
ESOL language school.
The café is open 7 days, Monday to Saturday 10am-4pm and Sunday 12-4pm
